Extreme dieting- how much can you diet?
January 12th, 2008
The term extreme dieting could refer to a diet that is a mere 1000 calories per day. There is no doubt that on a diet like this you are starving your body and creating more problems for your self. Of course you will loose weight initially but it will not be possible for you to keep that weight off for long. Sooner or later your body will send out distress signals and you will have to change your eating habits. A low calorie diet would have slowed down your metabolism drastically and you will only gain more weight suddenly.Â
Anorexia is invariably the next step
If you do not take care and continue on this extremely low calorie diet, you will become psychologically messed up and end up an anorexic. This is a state when people cannot help themselves and become compulsive in their habit of starving themselves. The body rebels against food and soon there may be hardly enough food in the body to sustain the person at all. This is all the result of extreme dieting and its aftermath.Â
Often you might require medical assistance to get out of this situation. So to avoid getting into it in the first place, tray and maintain a minimum moderate level of dieting so that you can loose weight yet remain physically and mentally healthy.Â
Get professional help to go for extreme dieting
If you need some drastic measures to loose weight, then it is always better to take professional help so that they can monitor your health and your well being too. There is always a bottom level that you cannot go beyond and which it would not be safe to try either. These professional dieticians will be able to give you information on the minimum amount of food intake that you can survive on safely without any ill effects on your health. You definitely would not like to look a miserable sight while loosing weight. There is no point in becoming thin with a gaunt face with bad skin, lack luster hair that is falling out and nails and teeth that are beginning to show signs of aging with lack of nutrition. Once these downward trends start it is very difficult to get yourself back to normal. So let the extreme dieting go only up to a certain point where you can remain in good health. Â
Extreme dieting differs from person to person
Everyone cannot be gauged with the same yardstick. So what can sustain one may not be sufficient for another. This depends on the bone structure, the body mass and the general build of a person. So if a friend or colleague is following a certain diet it does not mean that you can also go in for the same thing. Ensure that your intake keeps you in high spirits and active, not listless and depressed because then it means you are asking for trouble. Loosing weight is something that should be done gradually because then you will be able to keep it off too. There is no instant weight loss program even if the ads claim it, so do not fall for such gimmicks.Â
