There are so many ways of spicing up foods and salads that are good for you when you are on a diet. Foods that are of low caloric value are salads, raw vegetables and soups. You can add a little lime juice, salt, pepper and other spices like thyme and oregano to make it quite delicious. What you have to avoid are the fats and sweets, some foods can be eaten in limited quantities while for some that are really low in calories you really can have an unlimited amount. Avoid salad dressings that are oil based like thousand islands and mayonnaise, but a salad dressing with a dash of olive oil and lime juice is alright and also quite palatable too. You can be innovative with the right kind of foods and enjoy a tasty meal.
Ways of avoiding a second helping
Soups are the best way to fill yourself before a meal so that you do not need a second helping. Try eating your soup instead of drinking it, in other words leave the vegetables in the soup instead of straining the soup. This is much more filling and will give you the fiber that you need when you are dieting.
Some good dieting advice is to use a smaller plate to eat on and the food will not seem so little. It will seem like a plateful and satisfy you more. Another trick is to have a large glass of water before you start a meal, then you do not need to eat too much, in fact it will automatically cut down on the quantity of food.
Snacking can be a big culprit

Usually snacks are oily fried stuff or bakery items that are made of white flour and butter which can all add to your calorie intake. You should have snacks with which you can avoid fats and sweets. A good snack in between meals is a fruit. Another option is a fresh fruit juice or a smoothie. You can be innovative while making your smoothie and add fruits like strawberries, apples, bananas, peaches, kiwi fruit to it along with a low fat yogurt and skimmed milk. This is a very filling drink and helps you to wait until your next meal without feeling overly hungry.Â

A good way to ensure that you eat the right kind of food is to avoid buying and storing what is bad for your diet. Keep low fat foods, fruits, nuts and such eats around you so that if you have the sudden urge to snack you do not reach for the wrong food,
Learn how to use wheat flour instead of white flour, whole grain bread instead of white flour bread, lean meats and avoid keeping fried snack in the house. In this way you will not be tempted to have the wrong things.Â
